The Buffalo Bills announced Wednesday that they will retire the No. 34 of Hall of Fame running back Thurman Thomas during the team’s Monday Night Football clash with the New England Patriots on Oct. 29.

The Bills confirmed the news on social media:

“Thank you, Buffalo Bills. I’m overwhelmed,” Thomas wrote on Twitter.

Thomas spent the first 12 seasons of his 13-year career in Buffalo after the franchise selected him in the second round of the 1988 NFL draft. He racked up 11,938 rushing yards, 4,341 receiving yards and 87 total touchdowns across 173 regular-season games.

He earned five Pro Bowl selections and helped the Bills secure four straight Super Bowl appearances.

The 52-year-old Texas native was previously added to the team’s Wall of Fame in 2005.
