Rivaldo claims Neymar will never win ‘anything important’ with PSG

Big claim

Brazil legend Rivaldo has claimed that Neymar will not win ‘anything important’ while he remains at French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

The forward joined the Paris club from Barcelona last summer in the biggest deal in footballing history.

It was expected to trigger a golden generation for the French club and to push on for Champions League glory.

Though, despite completing a domestic double, they were lacklustre in Europe.

They were eventually knocked out by finalists Real Madrid but it always looked likely that they would struggle later in the competition.

What does Neymar do?

Now, there have been suggestions that Neymar could leave for his old rivals Real Madrid.

That would certainly give him a better platform to win more major honours and add to his Champions League trophy with Barcelona.

Though, it seems as though Rivaldo has forgotten that he has already won the European cup when talking about the player’s chances of winning silverware with PSG.

‘If Neymar doesn’t leave PSG he will never win anything important,’ the 46-year-old told Gazzetta dello Sport, as cited by the Daily Mail.

‘Especially the Champions League, which is the most important competition.

‘The French league is at a lower level compared to the Spanish and English leagues and he plays for a club without history.’

The former Barcelona legend Rivaldo has also explained should Neymar have a good World Cup, it could be a great springboard for the player.

‘Brazil are my favourites,’ he added.

‘We still have to dispel the disappointment of 2014, when we didn’t manage to win at home.

‘It can be a great springboard for Neymar. He and Gabriel Jesus can be the stars of World Cup in Russia and drag Brazil [to glory].’
