Mumbai Indians (186/8) beat Kings XI Punjab (183/5) by three runs at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, in the Indian Premier League on Wednesday.

Lokesh Rahul claimed 94 for the visitors, who also boasted the bowling performance of the day from Andrew Tye as he bagged four wickets, but it was not enough for them to topple Mumbai.

The Indians have moved to fourth in the table with the win:

Mumbai batted first, and despite an exceptional bowling effort from Tye, they were able to reach their total of 186 runs.

Kieron Pollard stood out for the hosts with his knock of 50 from 23 balls, while Krunal Pandya picked up 32 from the same number of deliveries.

Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan were the only others to reach or surpass 20 runs. Both fell victim to Tye, along with Evin Lewis and Hardik Pandya, who not only claimed four wickets from as many overs but also limited Mumbai to just 16 runs in that time.

ESPNCricinfo’s Bharath Seervi paid tribute to Tye’s efforts:

Unlike Mumbai, the visitor’s innings was less of a team-wide effort as Rahul and Aaron Finch provided the majority of the impetus in their chase, racking up 140 runs and 17 boundaries between them.

Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan expressed his admiration for Rahul:

Tye’s effort with ball in hand was not the only impressive display of bowling on Wednesday, and Punjab were stopped in their tracks by Jasprit Bumrah, whose hat-trick of wickets dismissed Rahul, Finch and Marcus Stoinis.

Meanwhile, Mitchell McClenaghan took Chris Gayle and Yuvraj Singh, ensuring the visitors fell just short in their chase.
