Huge for Southampton & Burnley: Marcos Alonso charged with violent conduct
Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso faces ban
On Monday the announcement was confirmed.
The FA have charged Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso following last weekend’s Premier League match at Southampton.
Alonso was spotted raking the back of Shane Long’s leg with his studs.
The match officials failed to spot the foul, allowing the FA to impose retrospective action on the Spanish international.

The FA posted the following statement on their website:
Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso has been charged with violent conduct following an incident with Southampton’s Shane Long.
It happened in the 43rd minute of Saturday’s game [14/04/18] and was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.
He has until 6pm on Wednesday [18/04/18] to respond to the charge.
Banned for Southampton & Burnley
Provided Chelsea fail to appeal or lose the appeal, Alonso is set to be hit with a three match ban.
That suspension will apply to both the FA Cup and Premier League.
Accordingly, Alonso is likely to miss this weekend’s FA Cup semifinal at Wembley against Southampton.
He’s further set to miss Premier League clashes against Burnley and Swansea.
Without the 27-year-old Alonso, Antonio Conte is likely to have to turn to Emerson Palmieri.
Emerson has barely been seen at Chelsea since his January arrival from Roma.
Chelsea & Tottenham favourites to win
The bookies believe that Chelsea and Tottenham are the joint-favourites to win the FA Cup.
Chelsea have been priced at 7/4 to win the trophy.
Last season, many believed that Chelsea would also win the FA Cup to complete a double in Antonio Conte’s first season at the Blues. Yet, Chelsea were beaten in the final by Arsenal.
Could they suffer a shock defeat against Southampton?
