Celtic’s Kieran Tierney speaks out over Man United interest

Celtic defender Kieran Tierney has this afternoon reaffirmed his commitment to the Scottish giants, amid mounting rumours that Manchester United are readying a bid for his services.

Talented starlet

20-year-old defender Tierney is widely regarded as one of the finest talents to come out of Scottish football over the past decade, with top European clubs the likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea having all been linked with moves for him in the past.

Tierney’s most recent ties with a top club came during last summer’s transfer window, when Manchester United were touted as a potential destinaton for the marauding left-back.

Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho reportedly watched Tierney in action during Scotland’s World Cup qualifier with England on June 10th, and was said to have been hugely impressed by what he saw.

A £15 million bid was rumoured by several outlets, but a move never came to fruition.

Fresh terms

Tierney subsequently went on to commit his long-term future to Celtic at the end of October, when the 9-time capped Scottish international put pen to paper on a new 6-year contract with the club, tying him down until 2023:

‘If that doesn’t say long-term…’

Nevertheless, despite having only re-committed to the Scottish champions 6 months ago, rumours have continued to circulate in England that Manchester United will reignite their chase of Tierney in the summer, with Luke Shaw continuing to struggle for game-time, and Ashley Young set to turn 33 in July.

However, speaking in an interview with the Times earlier today, Tierney, who has played a starring role for Celtic once again this season, was keen to shoot down rumours of a move to Old Trafford, once again affirming his plans to remain with his boyhood club for the foreseeable future:

‘I’m not thinking about anyone other than Celtic just now.’

‘I’m enjoying my career here; I’ve just signed a six-year deal, so if that doesn’t say long-term, I don’t know what does.’
