Update on the World Cup hopes of Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi
Highly respected Belgian football expert Kristof Terreur has this evening provided an update on the fitness of Chelsea loanne Michy Batshuayi, after the Belgian picked up a serious injury during Borussia Dortmund’s clash with Schalke yesterday afternoon.
Matchup
The Ruhr Derby took place at the Veltins-Arena yesterday, with the two sides having headed into proceedings separated by just a solitary point in the Bundesliga table (Schalke – 52 points, Dortmund – 51 points).

2-0
An entertaining affair in Gelsenkirchen eventually saw hosts Schalke emerge with a 2-0 victory, courtesy of second-half strikes from Yevhen Konoplyanka and Naldo.
And a dismal day all-round for visitors Dortmund was compounded by a serious injury for Chelsea loanee Michy Batshuayi, who of course has been in scintillating form since making the move to Germany in January.
The Belgian hitman was stretchered off in clear agony, with early reports having suggested that Batshuayi suffered a broken leg/ankle:
Michu Batshuayi will return to Chelsea from Dortmund after the striker broke his leg today against Schalke.

Apparently the fear is that Michy Batshuayi broke his ankle.

However, further updates in the hours that followed suggested that the striker’s injury was in fact not a fractured ankle, but ligament damage.
4-6 weeks
And, as per the aforementioned latest update courtesy of Kristof Terreur this evening, Batshuayi’s hopes of returning in time for selection for Belgium’s World Cup squad may not yet be dead:
Belgium are hopeful that Michy Batshuayi will be fit for the World Cup. Expected to be out between 4 and 6 weeks with damaged ankle ligaments. Chelsea will assess his injury too. #cfc https://t.co/3rQDVDBblv
