The Chicago Cubs (7-7) will be back at it Monday after another postponement when they host the St. Louis Cardinals (9-7) for the series opener of a three-game set. For the third time in their last four series, the Cubs saw a game postponed due to weather while the Cardinals bring a four-game winning streak to Wrigley Field following a sweep of the Cincinnati Reds.

Why the Cardinals can pay on the MLB lines

St. Louis appears to be playing some of its best baseball of the season, although sweeping a terrible Cincinnati team that is only 2-13 is nothing to brag about. Still, the Cardinals outscored the Reds 27-10 in the four games, holding them to three runs in the last two combined.

The Cardinals also improved to 7-3 on the road and will be sending veteran starting pitcher Adam Wainwright (0-2, 5.06 ERA) to the mound in search of his first win of the year. Wainwright made each of his previous two starts at Busch Stadium.

Why the Cubs can pay on the MLB lines

Chicago is expected to activate first baseman Anthony Rizzo off the disabled list Monday, giving the team one of its best offensive players and top leaders back. Rizzo was dealing with a back injury and has not played since April 5, as he needed some time off following an 0-for-8 stretch that saw his batting average plunge to .107.

The Cubs have won eight of the past nine meetings with their division rivals, according to the OddsShark MLB Database, and they went 14-5 in the season series a year ago.

Smart betting pick

Adding Rizzo to the lineup will help Chicago, but the team is also counting on starter Tyler Chatwood (0-2, 4.91) to pitch better than he has so far.

Fortunately for the Cubs, Wainwright was dismal away from home last year, going 4-4 with a 7.32 ERA in 13 games. Opponents hit .325 against Wainwright when he pitched on the road last year as well, so their offense should look a lot more like they did in a 14-10 win over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday than in their previous two games when they totaled one run.

Monday’s pitching matchup definitely favors Chicago, so look for the home team to roll.
