Monaco wish ‘good luck’ to suitors of Arsenal and Liverpool target Lemar

Monaco President Vadim Vasilyev last night provided a brief statement on the future of star winger Thomas Lemar, amid mounting rumours that he could be on the move at the end of the season.

Sensational campaign

Lemar, a 22-year-old French international, set Ligue 1 and the Champions League alight last season, with his combination of pace, pinpoint delivery and eye for goal having alerted some of Europe’s biggest clubs to his talents.

Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Juventus and Barcelona were all linked with moves for the Principality star during the summer, though the interest of the Gunners was the most concrete, with Arsene Wenger’s side having reportedly made 4 offers for Lemar.

The last of these bids came on the final day of the transfer window, when Arsenal had agreed a deal to send now-Manchester United star Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City.

The North London outfit tabled a mammoth 100 million Euro offer for Lemar as a result, though they were surprisingly rebuffed, with Monaco having already parted with the likes of Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva and Tiemoue Bakayoko for big money during the summer.

‘Good luck’

Despite Lemar having struggled to replicate his stellar form from last season during the current campaign (3 goals, 8 assists), it has nevertheless been heavily reported that Arsenal could return for the 10-time capped French international this summer, with Liverpool and Chelsea also continuing to be linked.

Speaking in an interview with Telefoot last night following his side’s embarrassing 7-1 defeat at the hands of newly-crowned Ligue 1 champions PSG, Monaco President Vadim Vasilyev was questioned on the future of Lemar, with the 52-year-old refusing to rule out a summer departure for the gifted winger:

‘A few hours after the match against Paris is not the time to talk about the transfer window. But good luck to those who want him.’

‘He’s worth a lot.’
