Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon linked with shock move to Argentina
A report from Argentinian outlet Ole this afternoon has revealed the shock suggestion that Boca Juniors are eyeing a summer swoop for Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.
Buffon, now 40, has yet to provide a definitive statement on his plans for next season, with the Italian icon reportedly still considering playing on for another year.
Juventus have already secured a long-term replacement for the veteran in the form of Wojciech Szczęsny, with the hugely-impressive form of the former Arsenal man when called upon to this point in the campaign having seen large sections of the Bianconeri faithful lobby for the Pole to be handed starting duties as soon as possible.
Juve have, however, insisted that they would be more than happy to hand Buffon an extension on his current deal, which is set to expire at the end of the season.
South American adventure?
One possibility which has not been touted, until today, though, is one in which Buffon prolongs his career at another club.
But, as per the aforementioned report from Ole (via Calciomercato), Argentine giants Boca Juniors have set their sights on bringing exactly this scenario to reality, with the Xeneizes readying an audacious offer to the legendary shot-stopper.
Boca have reportedly already been rebuffed by both Willy Caballero and Sergio Romero in their chase to secure reinforcements between the posts ahead of next season, and would ideally like to secure a deal for Buffon before August the 7th, when their Copa Libertadores knockout campaign will begin.
