Crystal Palace signing Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek update

Crystal Palace & Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Which club will Ruben Loftus-Cheek play for at the start of next season?

Loftus-Cheek was sent out on loan from Chelsea to Crystal Palace at the start of the season.

After settling into the Palace XI, RLC missed a large chunk of the season through injury.

Indeed, Loftus-Cheek’s injury problems were so bad, he left Crystal Palace to return to Chelsea for treatment.

At the same time, Loftus-Cheek made his England debut in a friendly against Germany this season.

Will RLC leave Chelsea?

On Monday in the Times, there’s an update on whether Palace will be able to sign Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea this summer.

The broadsheet make it clear that the Eagles want to make the deal permanent. Whether Chelsea will sell, however, is in the balance:

Palace would like to sign him permanently, but Hodgson already fears that if he plays well in their final four games and also makes an appearance in Russia his value might exceed what the club could afford.

And that’s before considering the possibility that Chelsea may still decide he deserves a regular place in their midfield.

“For Ruben Loftus-Cheek to consider us seriously as an option, we need to be in the league,” Hodgson added. “Then I’m pretty sure we would be saying to Ruben, ’Is it worth having the conversation with Chelsea, could you consider it?’ Then of course the conversation with Chelsea will come around and we will see from there.”
