Why Stoke’s Jack Butland is not thinking about the 2018 World Cup
Stoke City’s Jack Butland is not even thinking about a potential World Cup with England in the summer for one simple reason.
That reason is that the player is very much needed by his side to get them out of relegation trouble.
The Potters are currently sat in 19th but a win over Everton in their next game could see them out of the relegation zone if results went their way.
Though, Butland will be coming up against his biggest competitor for his place in the England side this summer.
Jordan Pickford will line up for the Toffees for that game and Butland has been talking about coming up against his counterpart.
“I’m up against Jordan on Saturday, but I’m not going to be thinking about that,” said the goalkeeper.
“I’ll be making sure we get the win and do as much as I can to help that.
“You come away and always look at yourself and what you could do better after a game. I felt I managed to make some good saves, right decisions and my kicking was good on Monday.
“As a keeper, you have to let the game come to you and do everything you can to be as steady and assured as possible.”
“We’re not going to get too upset about a defeat against Man City,” he said.
“We know what we are capable of doing and what we need to do to get out of the bottom three. So heads up and all focus on Everton.”
