Liverpool to bid for top Bundesliga striker in the summer

Liverpool are planning to make a move in the summer for Red Bull Leipzig striker Timo Werner, according to the Independent.

The Meyerside club have been monitoring the player for several seasons now and are finally set to make their move.

Having already secured a deal to sign Leipzig’s midfielder Naby Keita, the Reds have now turned their attention to bringing in Werner.

Bolstering attacking options

Already owning one of the best attacks in the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp is keen on adding yet more attacking talent to his squad in the summer.

Currently, Liverpool have only Roberto Firmino as a player the German manager sees as worthy of leading the line for his side.

Whilst, Danny Ings has failed to make a telling impact on Meyerside since joining back in 2015, neither Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge have been able to break into Liverpool’s line-up, subsequently sent out on loan.

The Reds are now expected to open negotiations with the Germans for Werner, despite knowing how tough Leipzig can be to communicate with following talks over a deal for Keita.

Eye’d up by Europe’s elite

Over the course of the last two seasons, Werner’s stock has seriously risen with various clubs around Europe monitoring the developments of the player.

Manchester United have also expressed an interest in the 22-year-old attacker and could rival Liverpool in the summer.

However, it is understood that Jurgen Klopp’s side are pursuing the deal the strongest at this moment in time.

Leipzig’s star man

This season for the Leipzig, Werner has netted 17 goals and provided five assists in 35 appearances in all competitions.

Last season, he was just as prolific scoring 22 goals in all competitions and demonstrating just why so many of Europe’s top clubs have been making a fuss over him.

One of the player’s most notable assets is his speed and should he join Liverpool, yet more speed would be injected into their attack.
