How ‘Liverpool obsessed’ Jose Mourinho tried to spin the Man United defeat

Man United vs Liverpool

Liverpool are still in the Champions League.

Man United are not.

The Red Devils suffered a shock defeat at Old Trafford on Tuesday night as Sevilla won 2-1 in Manchester.

After playing three halves of football without a breakthrough, all three goals in the tie came in the final quarter of the two-legs.

Wissam Ben Yedder is now the second highest Champions League scorer this season as he came off the bench to score a brace.

Romelu Lukaku scored what proved to be a consolation for United.

‘Liverpool obsessed’ Jose Mourinho after Sevilla

When Jose Mourinho spoke immediately after the Sevilla game, Liverpool fans revelled in a comment from the Special One.

Mourinho tried to take a dig at Liverpool, however his trolling comment didn’t seem to work. He said:

Liverpool are in to the next phase of the tournament? Yes this is true but they do not have the FA cup either.

We still have the top four in the league to fight for and the FA Cup too so it’s not the end of the world. It is disappointing but it happens.

Mourinho’s comments triggered a backlash from Liverpool fans on social media.

It’s worth noting that Mourinho has been particularly spiky towards Liverpool in recent days.

After beating the Reds at Old Trafford in the Premier League last weekend, Mourinho said the following:

Seville and Brighton are more important games than Liverpool. Liverpool is Liverpool, it is a big match, it is a match against a direct competition for the top four. But nothing is decided yet.

We have eight more games and 24 points to play for. But Seville and Brighton are die or live games so the next two are much more important than this one.
