Arsenal vs AC Milan

2-nil up from the first leg at the San Siro, Arsenal will be expected to progress past AC Milan in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Arsene Wenger’s side have enjoyed a good week after a run of four defeats on the bounce.

Henrikh Mhkitaryan and Aaron Ramsey were on target against Milan, and Arsenal followed that up with a 3-0 win over Watford.

With Arsenal’s Premier League top four hopes looking bleak, many believe Arsenal’s best chance of being in next season’s Champions League will be if they can win this season’s UEL.

AC Milan’s shock formation vs Arsenal

In Wednesday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, Rino Gattuso is tipped to switch up Milan’s formation for the Arsenal game.

Milan have generally lined-up in a 4-3-3 formation under Gattuso.

In the first leg against Arsenal, for example, Milan played a front three of Suso, Patrick Cutrone and Hakan Calhanoglu.

Last weekend Milan also played a 4-3-3 formation in a 1-0 away win at Genoa in Serie A.

On that occasion Cutrone was rotated for Nikola Kalinic, while Andre Silva came off the bench to score a 94th minute winner.

Milan are sixth in the Italian top flight.

Yet, according to GdS, Milan could adopt a 4-4-2 formation at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night.

In that formation, Milan would start with two strikers: Kalinic and Crutune. Suso and Giacomo Bonaventura could support the striker when Milan are on the attack.

How would Arsenal’s backline hold up against a more physical and offensive Milan side?

And will Milan be able to switch up their style of play successfully in north London?
