Watford’s Javi Gracia prepares Barcelona for the Chelsea game

Watford’s Javi Gracia talks to Sport

In Wednesday’s edition of Spanish paper Sport, there’s a new interview with Watford boss Javi Gracia.

Gracia took over the Watford job following the dismissal of Marco Silva from Vicarage Road.

Gracia had a simple brief this season with the Hornet: keep them in the Premier League.

That looks like happening as Watford are 11th in the table, on 30 points from 27 games.

Moreover, there’s a renewed spirit in the Watford camp following their recent 4-1 win over Chelsea.

With that in mind, Sport wanted to ask Gracia ‘who will win: Barcelona or Chelsea?’

Barcelona vs Chelsea in the Champions League

For Javi Gracia, while he was keen to talk up Chelsea’s qualities, he believes Barcelona are the favourites in the last-16 Champions League tie.

The interview with the Watford boss including the following questions and answers.

In Barcelona, attention was drawn o your win over Chelsea. Do you expect Conte to have a different game plan (for Barcelona)?

It will be different. Against us Chelsea lacked forwards, such as (Olivier) Giroud and (Alvaro) Morata. They had Willian and (Eden) Hazard.

Now they have their well-armed team back, with a very defined way of playing. I do not know what approach he will make against Barcelona, but it will not be about systems but about how Barcelona play.

Do you think that Barca are favourites in the tie?

I always see Barcelona as one of the favourites, in any competition that they play.

What stands out about the Blues’?

They are a team with a lot of offensive quality. Despite playing with three central defenders, Barca will not find an especially defensive opponent. They are the champions of the Premier last year, with quality and very dangerous potential in the Champions League.

How good is Eden Hazard?

He is at a very high level, exceptional. He is a different player. When the team is in trouble, like in the last game against West Brom, he scored two goals and was decisive.

Are Chelsea totally dependent on Hazard?

He’s important, but they have other players. There is Cesc (Fabregas), who is playing in the double pivot. His passes are high quality.

Big for Barcelona: Brazilian star Philippe Coutinho is becoming Portuguese.
