Tottenham Hotspur’s Dele Alli gets salty in diving row
Tottenham Hotspur player Dele Alli has claimed any suggestions he is bothered by the allegations he is a cheat do not bother him at all.
The midfielder has been involved in a fair amount of criticism this season for his tenancy to take to the floor when tackled – or not – as the case may be, especially in the penalty box.
His manager may have come out in support of him, but there have been some harsh words said in the media. However, the player claimed that doesn’t play on his mind at all.
Standard Sport report he said: “People always react to things and I try not to let anything bother me. I just keep focusing on the team and trying to play well.
“I’m not focused on this. I’m just concentrating on football. I don’t get brought into whatever people say [about me]: I just keep playing.
“We have a great dressing room. The boys believe in themselves and each other.
“We were going into the Juventus game in a lot of confidence. We knew about their record, that they hadn’t conceded many goals (one in their previous 16 games), so when you go 2-0 down early sometimes you can hide for the rest of the game and sit back.
“But we took the game to them, we dominated after the first 10 minutes and it shows a lot of character to go to a place like that and score two goals.”
The main objective for Spurs now is getting to the next round of the Champions League, and making sure they capitalise on the two away goals they got against Juventus, making sure they hold firm at home in the return leg.
They also need to get into the top four come the end of the season, and of course be in the Champions League come next season, especially given they will be moving into their new stadium.
The fight for the top four will be harder than ever with Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool all battling it out with Spurs, and Pochettino knows their focus cannot be allowed to waver.
