Kentucky Wildcats vs. Auburn Tigers Odds, College Basketball Betting Pick

The Kentucky Wildcats (17-8) will try to avoid their fourth consecutive loss Wednesday when they visit the 10th-ranked Auburn Tigers (22-3) as solid road underdogs. The Wildcats are riding a three-game losing streak—their worst slump ever under head coach John Calipari, who had never seen them lose more than two consecutive games in his nine years at the school.

Point spread: The Tigers opened as 8.5-point favorites; the total is at 157.5, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. (line updates and matchup report available here)

College basketball betting pick, via OddsShark computer: 78.9-73.1, Tigers (college basketball picks on every game available here)

Why the Wildcats can cover the spread

The Wildcats still have a lot of talent as the reigning SEC regular-season and conference tournament champions. Of course, most of that talent from previous years is gone to the NBA, but Calipari’s recruits remain some of the best in the nation, and the team is capable of finishing strong this season.

Prior to their skid, the Wildcats had won three in a row (2-1 against the spread), including an 83-76 upset of the West Virginia Mountaineers as 10.5-point road underdogs when they were ranked seventh in the nation on January 27.

Why the Tigers can cover the spread

Auburn leads the SEC with a 10-2 mark, two games ahead of both the Tennessee Volunteers and Florida Gators and four in front of Kentucky. The Tigers seem poised to win the conference’s regular-season title, and they will play two of their next three games at home before wrapping up with two of three on the road.

This matchup with the Wildcats can either help validate them as legitimate national championship contenders or show they are mere pretenders in a weaker than usual SEC. Auburn will look to prove itself as the former in hopes of landing a top seed in the Big Dance.

Smart betting pick

Kentucky has failed to cover the spread in four straight games along with eight of 11 dating back to a 76-65 road loss at Tennessee on January 6, according to the OddsShark College Basketball Database. That setback versus the Volunteers as four-point underdogs showed these Wildcats are not the same threat to cut down the nets in April as in years past.

The Tigers have lost 19 of the previous 20 meetings in the series, but they have managed to go 7-3-1 ATS in the last 11. Bet on Auburn to come through.

College basketball betting trends

Kentucky is 1-4 ATS in its last five games.

The total has gone over in four of Kentucky’s last six games.
