Paul Merson predicts ‘Liverpool to beat Man City’

Liverpool vs Man City

The game of the day in the Premier League will be staged at Anfield.

After Bournemouth take on Arsenal, Liverpool welcome Man City to Merseryside this Super Sunday.

Man City come into the match still unbeaten in the league this campaign.

Crystal Palace could have ended that run but the Eagles missed an injury time penalty in a 0-0 draw against the Sky Blues.

Can Liverpool go one better than Palace? When the two sides met earlier in the season City ran out 5-0 winners. But the floodgates only opened that day after Sadio Mane was sent off.

Paul Merson back Liverpool to win

Writing in the Star on Sunday, Paul Merson has given his vote of confidence for Liverpool to beat Man City.

Indeed, Merson believes cracks are starting to show in Pep Guardiola’s group. He wrote:

I think they are the ones who can beat Manchester City. I really do. They’ve just got to take a risk.

I think they will get a result. City look jaded. I don’t see Liverpool losing – but I can see City losing, definitely.

They have players who can hurt City. But they have got to finish in the Champions League places or there will be mayhem.

Liverpool: One in, one out

Sunday’s big focus will no doubt be on how the Reds react to the loss of Philippe Coutinho.

For the first time since his departure, Liverpool are back in action and even more pressure will be placed on Mo Salah and Saido Mane to produce.

Salah has been Liverpool’s outstanding player this season. He trails Harry Kane in the goal scoring charts by just one goal, with 17 in total.

As one big name departs though, another enters, as Virgil Van Dijk looks set to make his first Premier League appearance for Liverpool since his big-money move.

The Dutchman put in positive performance in his debut against bitter rivals Everton, even managing to net a last-gasp winner.

Will the 26-year-old be able to put in another top shift against Manchester City’s explosive offensive threat?
