Calls for Burnley’s Steven Defour to be banned after Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace 1 – Burnley 0

It was another superb weekend for Roy Hodgson and Crystal Palace.

Taking on one of the best teams in the Premier League this season, an injury-ravaged Palace side beat Burnley 1-0.

The only goal of the game came from Eagles in-form forward Bakary Sako. Once a player on the sidelines, Sako is now Palace’s top scorer this season with six goals in all competitions.

Palace, remember, lost their opening seven matches of the season without scoring.

They are now 12th in the Premier League, level on points with West Ham.

Steven Defour vs Wilfried Zaha

Wilfried Zaha had a slightly subdued game against Burnley considering the Palace star’s own high standards.

Yet Zaha still showed enough trickery in the game to rial up the Burnley players.

On one occasion, Burnley midfielder Steven Defour reacted poorly in a confrontation with Zaha.

The Palace star won a free-kick under a challenge from the Belgian. After the ref’s decision was made final, Defour slyly kicked out at Zaha.

Immediately after the kick, Zaha jumped to his feet to get in his opponent’s face.

Will Defour be banned by the FA for his bad behaviour? Probably not as Defour was booked after his Zaha clash.

Burnley have already been hit with bans from the FA this season. James Tarkowski was suspended for three games after he threw an elbow which was caught by the TV cameras.

Should the same punishment be dished out to Defour?

Burnley are still seventh in the table, but Leicester are hunting them down just three points behind.

Next up for Sean Dyche’s men is a home match against Man United followed by an away trip to Newcastle.

Burnley have lost their last three matches on the spin and they are winless in seven games.
