Versatile Manchester City defender Fabian Delph was forced off during the first-half of the Citizens’ clash with Premier League leaders Manchester City this evening, after picking up an injury.

Matchup

The two sides are currently locked in action at Anfield, with both sides looking to continue stellar recent runs of form.

Hosts Liverpool came into proceedings on the back of a hugely-impressive 17-match unbeaten streak across all competitions, including victories in their last 4 outings.

Manchester City, meanwhile, had not lost a Premier League game all season, culminating in a massive 15-point lead atop the English top-flight table.

Teams

In front

Despite Liverpool’s sensational home form to this point in the campaign, visitors Manchester City were nevertheless viewed as favourites heading into the clash, with the absence of Virgil Van Dijk and the recent departure of Philippe Coutinho for the Reds an interesting side-note.

However, it was the hosts who came out of the blocks on top, putting City on the back foot and making use of the energy generated by the raucous Anfield crowd to their advantage.

Their efforts didn’t take long to pay off, as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain drove from his midfield berth into the heart of the Citizens’ defence, before unleashing a pinpoint driven strike into the bottom left-hand corner of Ederson’s net.

Crocked

And the difficult start on the part of the visitors was compounded when Fabian Delph, once again filling in at left-back, picked up an injury during a challenge with goalscorer Chamberlain.

After stretching with his left leg in a desperate attempt to get a touch on the ball, Delph’s right knee seemed to buckle underneath him, with the former Aston Villa man eventually forced to limp off in the 25th-minute.

The seriousness of the problem remains to be seen.

However, in more positive news for Pep Guardiola’s side, Leroy Sane has since put the visitors on level terms.
