Alexis Sanchez out vs Bournemouth: Headed to Man United, Mkhitaryan swap

Alexis is out: Bournemouth vs Arsenal

Hours before Sunday’s Premier League match between Arsenal and Bournemouth the Gunners meltdown began.

Rumours initially broke on social media that Alexis Sanchez could be set to miss the Bournemouth game.

Sanchez is the target for Man City and Man United in the January transfer window.

And then the confirmation about the Chilean arrived from outlets including the Daily Mail and the Guardian.

Arsenal’s best player is again going to be missing in action in a match Arsene Wenger needs to win.

To be clear, Sanchez is not injured. He is being left out for tactical reasons.

Man United leapfrog Man City

It’s surely a formality now that Alexis Sanchez is leaving Arsenal this January.

That’s a major gamble by Wenger. He’s risking a place in next season’s Champions League for around 40 million pounds for Alexis.

Of course, Arsenal were offered 60 million pounds for Sanchez last summer by Man City.

Both the Mail and Guardian now believe Man United could be Sanchez’s next destination.

Arsenal wills will be dreading the thought of the Chilean becoming the ‘next Robin van Persie’.

The Mail’s update on the United vs City race for Alexis read:

Sportsmail understands a switch to United is becoming a real possibility for Sanchez, despite the prospect of a virtually guaranteed title medal at Manchester City.

The Guardian offered a more meaty understanding for why United could be a better fit, especially for Arsenal:

The latest indication is that (Sanchez) has come to favour a move to Manchester United over Manchester City.

United have moved ahead of their cross-town rivals with a more lucrative package and the sense at Arsenal is that Sánchez has had his head turned by it.

Arsenal are interested in taking Henrikh Mkhitaryan from United.

If Man United are willing to throw more money at Alexis Sanchez than Man City, Jose Mourinho could well get his man.

And with Mkhitaryan heading to Arsenal in return, that could be a good deal for the Gunners as well.
