Real Madrid in surprise move for Manchester City star

As per a report from Spanish outlet Don Balon, European champions Real Madrid have set their sights on a move for Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling.

English international Sterling has long been regarded as one of the most talented youngsters in the Premier League, with the hefty sum (around £49 million including bonuses) splashed out by Man City to bring the blistering attacker to the Etihad from Liverpool in 2015 having proven exactly that.

However, despite his immense potential, Sterling was often criticised in the past for his poor final ball and lack of composure in front of goal.

This season, though, has seen the 22-year-old put such traits firmly behind him, under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola.

Incredibly, despite it being only January, Sterling has already found the net on 18 occasions across all competitions for City, blitzing his previous best return of 12 for an entire season.

He has also racked up 4 assists to go along with his hefty goal tally, leading to widespread claims that Sterling has finally fulfilled his potential to establish himself as one of the Premier League’s finest players.

La Liga bound?

And, as per the aforementioned report from Don Balon, the Citizens’ star’s performances have seemingly not gone unnoticed outside of England, with claims this morning that Spanish and European champions Real Madrid have set their sights on the 35-time capped Three Lions international.

Real are known to be in the market for reinforcements out wide, due to the continued fitness struggles of Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo’s move into a more central role.

Los Blancos have been heavily linked with a move for Chelsea star Eden Hazard, but with the Blues refusing to budge on their star man, the capital giants have reportedly switched their attentions to Sterling.

Don Balon even go as far as to claim that Real President Florentino Perez has made contact with City to gauge their stance on Sterling.

However, any move away from the Etihad for the Liverpool youth product is viewed as highly unlikely for a number of reasons, with City’s sensational form and Sterling’s growth under Guardiola just two of many.
