Official: Leicester secure signing of highly-rated attacker

Premier League outfit Leicester City have this afternoon announced the signing of winger/forward Fousseni Diabaté from French outfit Gazélec Ajaccio.

Gifted youngster

Diabaté, a versatile 22-year-old Malian U23 international, came up through the youth ranks of both Rennes and Reims, before breaking into the latter’s 2nd side in 2013.

He was snapped up by Guingamp in 2015, going on to spend 2 seasons with the French minnows before Gazelec Ajaccio secured his signature last summer.

Despite having appeared in just 18 Ligue 2 games for Gazelec to this point, Diabaté’s impressive form this season had seen him linked with a number of French top-flight sides, with a move back to Rennes having looked very much on the cards for the African attacker.

Done deal

However, in the end, a move failed to materialise, with Leicester having taken advantage of the situation with a swift move of their own today.

Speaking in an interview earlier this week regarding his proposed move to the King Power, Diabate explained:

‘A dream is coming true. I want to thank my mother who has always supported me despite my different challenges, my agents for their confidence in me and also the representatives at Gazélec who gave me my first professional contract.’

Diabaté’s arrival at Leicester looks likely to spell the end of Ahmed Musa’s time at the club, with Claude Puel having recently admitted that the Nigerian attacker could be on the move this month:

‘We will see. Perhaps it could be a possibility. We will see with the player and the opportunity for the club also.’

‘I need to have discussions about some players.’
