Arsenal want one Manchester United player in return for Alexis Sanchez
As per a report from journalist Kike Marin this morning, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has set his sights on Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial, as part of a potential deal that would send Alexis Sanchez to Old Trafford.
The story surrounding the future of Chilean international Sanchez was one of the talking points of the summer transfer window, with all of Bayern Munich, PSG, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City having expressed an interest in the 29-year-old.
A deadline day move to the Etihad to join up with former boss Pep Guardiola was labelled as ‘imminent’ by a number of outlets at the end of August, but, in the end, a move failed to materialise, mainly due to Arsenal’s inability to secure a deal for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar.
City links persist
As a result, Sanchez was left with no choice but to stay put in North London, though it has still long been widely predicted that the South American will depart the Emirates, either this month for a nominal fee or for free in the summer upon the expiration of his contract.
Manchester City have maintained their status as the leading contenders for his signature, despite the Citizens having proven already this season that they are not exactly lacking in the goalscoring department.
However, a number of substantial updates breaking across social media this past Thursday revealed that City would not be having it all their own way in their chase of Sanchez, with Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool having emerged as fellow contenders for his signature.
Reliable Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio first broke the news that United had made contact with Sanchez’s representatives, with his claim that the Red Devils offered up midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan plus clash in exchange for the Chilean since backed by a number of English outlets.
But, as revealed in the aforementioned report from Kike Marin this morning, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has set his sights on another of United’s stars.
The player in question is of course Wenger’s fellow countryman, Anthony Martial, who the Gunners were rumoured to have been tracking before the gifted youngster made his way to Old Trafford in 2015.
Though the 22-year-old has started just 11 of the Red Devils’ 22 Premier League fixtures to this point in the campaign, he has nonetheless proven absolutely crucial to the cause of the Manchester giants, racking up 7 goals and 3 assists in the league alone.
Add this to the fact that Martial is 7 years younger than Sanchez and has an extra 12 months remaining on his current contract when compared to the Arsenal man, and it quickly becomes clear that any deal to take Martial to North London would obviously require the Gunners to fork out a substantial sum on top of their Chilean star.
In addition, Kike Marin ensures that Jose Mourinho is firmly against the idea of parting ways with Martial.
