Antonio Conte: Man City’s move for Alexis Sanchez ‘a good investment’ (Video)

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has discussed the rumours surrounding Manchester City’s proposed move for Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez, with the Italian tactician quick to point to the financial might possessed by the runaway Premier League leaders: ‘If Manchester City want Alexis Sanchez, they buy Alexis Sanchez.’

The story surrounding the future of Chilean international Sanchez was one of the talking points of the summer transfer window, with all of Bayern Munich, PSG, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City having expressed an interest in the 29-year-old.

A deadline day move to the Etihad to join up with former boss Pep Guardiola was labelled as ‘imminent’ by a number of outlets at the end of August, but, in the end, a move failed to materialise, mainly due to Arsenal’s inability to secure a deal for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar.

City links persist

As a result, Sanchez was left with no choice but to stay put in North London, though it has still long been widely predicted that the South American will depart the Emirates, either this month for a nominal fee or for free in the summer upon the expiration of his contract.

Despite Manchester United and Liverpool having both joined the hunt for Arsenal’s star man over the last couple of days, Manchester City have maintained their status as the leading contenders for his signature, with Sanchez’s desire known to be a key factor in negotiations.

‘A top player’

Speaking in a press conference last night, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was questioned on the saga surrounding Sanchez’s future, with the 48-year-old (who actually made a move of his own for Sanchez during his time spent managing Juventus) hinting at a touch of jealousy towards Manchester City’s transfer budget, before admitting that any move for the Chilean would be ‘a good investment.’:
